Run like a scary night monster is chasing you

I’d say on a scale of 1-10 with 10 being “I feel great!” and 1 being “I feel like ass!” I was somewhere between 2-3 yesterday. Since I skipped my run on Wednesday night (due to feeling around a 4 and it being freaking freezing outside), I laced up/layered up and went out for my regular four mile hilly loop.

I think this is the last time I’ll be running this route in the evening or before daylight. There is really no lighting to speak of on the route, and the last .75 miles up a dark highway was kind of freaky. Turns out my batteries were almost dead in my headlamp, but still. I might need to finally try a pair of those knuckle lights I’ve heard so much about.

The time actually surprised me; I didn’t feel like I was moving very fast at all – maybe 10:30s at the most – because each foot fall was with hesitation in the dark. Maybe I run faster when I’m freaked out?

Might go out for 30 minutes tonight and then go for an 8 mile loop tomorrow morning if the weather isn’t too awful. We’re supposed to get snow this weekend. It’s too soon for snow. Seriously.

I have my standard 4 mile loop that I had to reconsider as the winter hours change lighting. I had a creep follow me in his car the other day so running alone in the dark is no longer an option. Sadly I’ll be putting my treadmill to good use this winter, which is hellish all on it’s own!

Good luck on your evening run today and 8 miler tomorrow! Your blog is always a great read, as you know đŸ˜‰

This is where I blather on about running and health. Baby Number Three will be here in November (so yes, I'm a little crazy), and I'm running through my pregnancy for as long as my body's willing and able. There's also more of me at amyupnorth.com.
