Another Mother Runner

OMG, that’s me!

Thanks to Heather for the interview. It was a lot of fun!
Bike shtuff
Nothing huge here – just semi-relaxed spinning on the bike with my friends from Downton Abbey and the Biggest Loser.

Riding while watching Makeover Week? David, you had me crying like a baby. On my bike. Not pretty.
I know I’m working at least a little on these rides. I mean, I’m sweating like a pig. My heart rate is still lower than when I run, and I still don’t know what that means.

Bailed before the workout ended to help put kids to bed
Anyway, I got in some time last night and an early 30 minute ride this morning before the kids woke up. Sturgeon 100, here I come?
I’m still a runner
Today’s runch was much needed, because I’d been feeling less like a runner lately, mother or not. I hadn’t been out since the long run on Saturday, and it’s possible that my family was ready to kick me out the door tonight if I didn’t blow off some steam at lunch.
I met 2/5 of Team /var/run up at the indoor track for a short run with no expectations other than to get out and slog through a few miles. My shoulders hurt. My arms felt weird. I had new shoes and wasn’t sure how they’d feel.
Even though I still prefer running outside, today is fuh-reaking cold out. It looks absolutely lovely, almost winter picture postcard-esque.
But after a few minutes, when the wind starts whipping and head starts pounding from the subzero temp air, you go to the ticket office, buy a punchcard, and put on your indoor shoes.
I’ve decided I’m going to stop trying to count laps with my Garmin when I’m indoors, because I just. can’t. remember. They looked like this today:
Lap # | Avg pace | Dist |
---|---|---|
Lap 1 | 11:00 | .13 mi |
Lap 2 | 10:36 | 1.0 mi |
Lap 3 | 9:54 | 1.0 mi |
Lap 4 | 9:02 | 1.0 mi |
Lap 5 | 8:27 | 1.0 mi |
Lap 6 | 8:51 | .37 mi |
Lap 5 I ran on my own – Danno and RC Josh had to split – I remember looking at Garmin and wanting to keep a 9:00/mile pace. I settled in at a cadence of 90 (or is it 180?) and just held on. I was pretty shocked to see it register as 8:27. But hey, indoor running is easier and perhaps my running legs are just well-rested? Whatever the reason, I’ll take it. 🙂
I think I can make it through the rest of my day now. Also: the Mizunos? Love them. They passed the short run test.
Oh brr Houghton! Spent many a winter in Marquette for skating competitions. I too love Makeover Week!
Our winter is neverending. Don’t get me started about our latest winter advisory. Thanks for reading, Sarah!
