RWRUNSTREAK Day 26/27/28 (Christmas, Bitches!)

Day 26
It was cold enough to keep me inside and take it easy after the brutal 5 miler the day before. Thank god FIL has a treadmill!
I kept forgetting to hit my watch for the splits so I’m not sure what they were. I tried this interval workout I found online and modified it a little bit. I did it twice. It was so-so. The incline changes made it challenging but I think I need to adjust the MPH to make it right for me.
Followed with my 100 Pushups workout for the day and it turned into a halfway decent workout.
Day 27
Happy Christmas Eve!
The idea: Run a total of 20K in any combination on:
- Christmas Eve
- Christmas Day
- New Year’s Eve
- New Year’s Day
Also: I really just wanted to make a fun graphic for possible swag.
Christmas Eve Run #1 – 5K on the ‘mill
I decided to go with another interval workout. Even though it wasn’t windy, it was in the negative figures when I woke up. I didn’t know if I’d be able to run later, so on the ‘mill I went.
I did some 400s today (5) with a warmup and 400s resting in between each. I went by Garmin/pod instead of the treadmill display; I had my interval workout programmed, which took some of the brainwork out of it. Sarah OUaL has a good tutorial on this.
Hopefully it’s clear which splits are my fast ones.
Christmas Day Run #2 – Insurance miles on the ‘mill
The weather was supposed to be a lot warmer today, and I was sick of being stuck inside. This is the first Christmas that my kid knows what’s going on, so I didn’t know if I’d have much time today to get a run in like I wanted. I woke up early (couldn’t fall back asleep) and decided to just go for a few miles until 1) I couldn’t take it anymore or 2) my kids woke up.
I made it for 2.2 miles.
This was also an impromptu interval-ish workout, because I was having a really hard time staying motivated. I tried watching Biggest Loser on the iPad but the volume doesn’t go up high enough to drown out the treadmill noise. Would’ve liked 3 miles or 5K (because I’m obsessive over ending on an even number) but I settled for this.
Christmas Day craziness ensued. More on that later on the other blog.
After getting the kids to reluctantly go down for a nap, I set out for a 3 mile loop (or what I thought was a 3 mile loop). Turned out it was more like 2.5. In over-ankle-keep snow on sidewalks that hadn’t been cleared and roads that were greasy and expletive-inducing.
That shot of the sidewalk was the best it got – it was twice as deep as that in most spots. I’m sure the drivers on Silver Lake Road were wondering why the hell anyone would be running in this shit.
After I realized this was going to be a slow plod, I stopped thinking much about speed and just focused on getting back to sloppy roads. I did an extra neighborhood loop to get to 3 miles. Then I wanted 5K. Then I realized if I did 4 miles I’d have 10K for the day. And there you go.
This was probably a good idea since I proceeded to eat ALL THE THINGS later that day at the Christmas party.
So far I’m at 15K for the TVHCRC. I’d like to get in at least one good 10K in Detroit (where we’ll be for NYE/NYD.
Also: to hit 100 miles this month I have six days to put in 25 miles. Not sure if that is possible but might try.
Did you run on Christmas?
