Day 17

After running most of the week with team /var/run, it was an adjustment getting back into solo running.

Dammit. It even feels colder when you’re running alone.

Fine, the trees are pretty this time of year.

Thought maybe the camelbak bottle would not freeze over. Wrong.

Santa says hi.

Didn’t try to rush it, so I’m happy.

Felt like -27

I just did a simple out and back on roads I knew would be lightly populated. Even though the temps were in the twenties, it felt a lot colder than the runs I’ve done all week in single digits.

Day 18

I told myself to just go out for two miles. It was windier than the day before and I had a lot of things I wanted to get done. But after I was out for a few minutes, I realized it wasn’t so bad and made a 3 mile run out of it.

Took a slightly different route down some new streets, which was more for reasons of finding streets with freshly driven tire tracks to run in than adventure.

Not my house.

Think I made up some time on a well-plowed stretch through town.

My first holiday gift came from Scott’s daughter and her husband, The Little Red Book of Running.

Jess is technically my stepdaughter, but it seems weird to put the label on her. So I don’t.

So far it’s been a nice casual read with some good tips/reminders about pace, increasing mileage, etc. Also: Amby Burfoot wrote the foreword and has the best running name ever.

Runner, Eater, Mother, Tweeter

Amy, July 2013

I'm a thirty-something suburbanite turned ruralite living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Wife, mom of two, eater of all things delicious, and a runner. This is where I blather on about running and health. Baby Number Three will be here in November (so yes, I'm a little crazy), and I'm running through my pregnancy for as long as my body's willing and able. There's also more of me at amyupnorth.com.
