Hurts so bad/good

So I did the Jillian DVD on Monday night and went out for a relaxed 3 miler last night, since we were having such nice weather.
Considering my quads were really sore, I was happy when I stopped the garmin and looked at my time. I also wasn’t trying to break any records on this run.
This morning I could barely get out of bed, and it took me almost twice as long to get from my car to my office. Can I really be this sore from a stupid 20 minute workout DVD? This makes me realize how woefully unconditioned I am, despite all the stupid running all spring and summer.
So, cross training it is. I might try to do a rotation every other day with running for a few weeks while maintaining my long runs on the weekends. I’m not actively training for a race, other than the runningchunk.com team /var/run Virtual 10K on Thanksgiving (more on that later).
I’m starting to think about winter running, since I drove to work this morning with white stuff splattering on the window, which leads me to consider whether or not I’ll buy a gym membership for the upcoming months. While I would love to be thinking of a treadmill right now, I don’t think it’s a purchase that’s happening this winter. I’d really like to do a little research on them, and, if we do buy one, go with something more toward the commercial end of the dreadmill spectrum. I’ve run on way too many shitty treadmills in my lifetime.
There’s a fitness center/rehab place less than a mile from the house, and I’ll probably end up going there. I worked out there years ago when I first started spending more time at Scott’s but stopped going when the people got weird and my desire to be cooped up inside a gym disappeared. Unfortunately, so did all my muscle. I do miss having a slew of freeweights and machines at my disposal, and I don’t know how much longer I can stand the at-home DVD thing. Plus, an hour away from tired, whining kids every so often? Sign me up.
In closing, here’s a cooperative effort cartoon with running chunk of two ways to do planks. Or, you could eat ice cream.
