Putting the Hump(s) in Hump Day

Or at least a few moderate hills to make things more interesting.
I volunteered to run first this morning, as I was the only adult conscious at 5AM. Was out by 5:30 and decided to run the “hilly loop” near our house. It’s not the mountains but it’s certainly not flat. There is enough change in grade to keep you interested and a nice half mile climb at the end to test your inner strength (or curse word vocab).

I know, I know. 252 ft? NBD.
I threw on the Brooks Pure Grits, even though this wasn’t “real” trail running. The backroads are all pretty gravelly (is that a word?) and I try not to chew up my long run shoes on rocks and shit. I was also curious if my legs would feel better in a more minimalist shoe, since my hip and knee were giving me a little grief yesterday after running in the Nimbuses.
Verdict? Not sure yet. Didn’t really notice any pain. I should probably go to a real running store and have my gait analyzed instead of relying on the “wet foot on the paper bag” test I’ve been going by all these years. Then again, I haven’t had real problems, so I must be doing something right?
Overall feeling re: the run this morning was that I felt like I was putting forth a moderate effort but felt slower. Maybe I’m just tired. I’ve got another seven on Friday and the long run (15) on Saturday.
Scott’s been having some back issues and with my weird hip starting to act up, plus the fact that I never fucking stretch, I ordered a foam roller. Will report on that later this week.

Trigger Point Grid Foam Roller. Of course, I needed this in green.
In other news, I’m thinking of combining the run blog BACK with my regular blog that I never update – the one where I talk about my spawn and cooking and other shit that doesn’t fit under the “Run” category. It would make sense since I already own a domain and pay for hosting, but I kind of like my little home here on wordpress.com. Still thinking about that.
Do you foam roll? Do you find it helps with recovery?
