On the road

When traveling, I usually take running stuff with me, even if I don’t always get out and actually run. Do good intentions count for anything?

This time, I did get out, twice. I’m pretty happy with that, considering we didn’t get into town until Saturday morning (car broke down on the way there on Friday night). So Sunday morning I got out and ran around Long Lake before we hit the State Fair for, oh, eight hours. Ouch.
It was a nice loop. I’ve actually run this before with Scott, but it’s been years, and the last time I ran this, I was trying to keep up with him and didn’t get to enjoy much of the scenery. It’s a typical park loop, but it’s nicely paved and quite peaceful. If I lived in the ‘burbs, this is the kind of loop I’d be very happy to run regularly.

On Monday, I got out for a short 3 mile loop, knowing I’d be in the car all day, probably eating a ton of junk food.
I was actually surprised at the pace. It’s possible the route had a lot of downhill, but it did have its share of uphill climbs, too. Actually, I think it was relatively flat. I’ll totally take it.

Wanted to run yesterday but Scott had to work all night, leaving me with no baby watcher. This morning I was able to get out for four. I felt a slight pain in my right hamstring, so I took it easy. Still pleased with the result.
I’m hoping to get a two-hour effort in this weekend, which will be a challenge. Have to go back to MN to pick up my car from the Ford Dealer (break down, boo!), and that means Saturday morning is probably out. Might try to work it in on Friday, but that will mean waking up really, really early (maybe 4:30?) to get on the road by 5:00. I don’t usually like to run that early, especially when it’s dark. Safety concerns, mostly.
