Two is the new Three

My “I’m lame but I’ll go out and do this workout anyway” mileage used to be three miles. Lately, all I can muster is two without completely falling apart.

I swear it did not take me this long to get back into running form after my first kid. Then again, I didn’t start any serious activity until almost a year after she was born. Nevertheless, it’s been almost three months. I didn’t think it would still feel this awful. And it does. It feels AWFUL.

Painful.

Awkward.

Uncomfortable.

Like my entire body is resisting the motion of running.

Scott said he heard a Gallowayism that says it takes a few weeks after a layoff for your joints and muscles to remember how to do this again. It’s been longer than that for me, though I haven’t had more than a few runs per week since I started back at this (I think my first run was at 5 wks postpartum).

Just keep keeping at it, I suppose.

Runner, Eater, Mother, Tweeter

Amy, July 2013

I'm a thirty-something suburbanite turned ruralite living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Wife, mom of two, eater of all things delicious, and a runner. This is where I blather on about running and health. Baby Number Three will be here in November (so yes, I'm a little crazy), and I'm running through my pregnancy for as long as my body's willing and able. There's also more of me at amyupnorth.com.
