Learning to run again

Running is hard after taking a six month break to have a baby.

6/2/12

Every step feels like you’re fighting my body. Strides are awkward. My legs feel like they’re made of lead, encased in blubber. And my arms? What the hell am I supposed to do with my arms again?

This is my third “real” run since giving birth seven weeks ago. I’ve been incorporating some walking, just so I don’t overdo it too quickly. Surprisingly (and rather sad, really), my overall pace isn’t too much slower with the walking than without it. My first mile I ran the entire way for a time of 11:07. 11:48 average the rest of the way? I’m not proud of it, but at this point I know it’s more important that I’m out there.

Sometimes you’ve just got to keep your legs moving.

Current wt: 146.6 lb (ouch). I would like to get down to 125, before marathon day (Oct 2, 2012).

Runner, Eater, Mother, Tweeter

Amy, July 2013

I'm a thirty-something suburbanite turned ruralite living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Wife, mom of two, eater of all things delicious, and a runner. This is where I blather on about running and health. Baby Number Three will be here in November (so yes, I'm a little crazy), and I'm running through my pregnancy for as long as my body's willing and able. There's also more of me at amyupnorth.com.
