Running unplugged

The marathon training schedule I’m following has me running five days a week. For me, that means M, T, W are running days; Th is a rest day; F, S are running days; Sun is a cross-training day. Scott shifts his schedule by one day to do his XT on Mondays. While in Detroit, my schedule was off by one day. I wasn’t sure how I was going to get back on schedule but knew I’d miss one run or a rest day. At this point, I’m not sure which is more important. I’m leaning toward rest.
When I woke up this morning it was raining pretty hard and I could hear thunder. My original intention to run the 8 mile workout became maybe I’ll run 5 on the treadmill It stopped raining around 7:00 am so I seized the opportunity to not get stuck on the treadmill, which I loathe.
I couldn’t find my heart rate monitor strap so it was difficult to pace myself. I tried to push it a little. I also realized that I’m running this loop “the hard way,” or at least the hillier way.
Maybe I’ll run it backward when I add three on to make it eight tomorrow.
I tried an experiment yesterday of writing down what I had eaten. I didn’t track calories like I have been on my phone (calorie count). Funny, but when you see it in list form, it seems kind of, well, awful.
