Survival

This morning’s eight mile route was all about survival. The soundtrack? My misery and a less than stellar iPod mix.
When I check the weather and see 100% humidity, I just want to crawl back into bed. Had I been at home, I might have. Instead I stalled for 30 minutes before finally hitting the road around 6:00.
It’s been years since I’ve logged serious miles here, and I’ve forgotten where most of the hills are. This is unfortunate, especially since I routed in a big one around the 6-7 mile mark.
There was a little walking. I also drained an entire bottle of powerade and could have used more.
1:34 isn’t awesome for an 8 mile course. But considering the heat and the fact that I purposely went out slow, I think it was fine. This week is about covering the miles, even if it’s at a snail’s pace.
I’ve now run 12 of the 41 required miles for the week. The tough run will be the longest, but the “pace” run on Saturday is going to be hard to get done. To motivate myself, I’m making myself check in with Scott after getting back, to hold myself accountable. We’ll see who completes the distance (hopefully we both will).
