Retracing my steps

I decided to ride the route I ran yesterday to see which was more accurate, Nike or mapmyrun.
Nike: 9.44
MMR: 9.21
Bike’s odometer: 9.32
Sigh.
I guess this just shows that none of these devices are really accurate. Or if one is, I have no idea which.
Last week when I got on my bike after a two year biking hiatus, it was painful. Torture, even. I play hockey in the fall and winter, and now I know why sisters spend so much time on the bike in training. Biking and running? Totally different muscles involved. Even when I am in top running shape, I find I still die on the ice (though I do notice an improvement in my recovery time in between shifts or drills).
Today, even though the air was so humid outside I felt like I was slogging through it, the ride felt better. The route is slightly rolling but fairly easy. I tried to keep my heart rate on the lower end of what it is on my long runs and my legs spinning. And I must admit, it’s a scenic route once you get on the old railroad grade.
Tomorrow I’ve got a 4 miler scheduled. Last week, my 3 mi run was the worst I’d had in months. I blamed it on the bike ride and humidity. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. Spending the afternoon at the Lake Superior shoreline. I’ll make sure my legs get some much needed rest in the sand.
