This is so much slower than I hoped I’d be doing these long runs but an improvement over last week. I took a different route today that took me on some uncharted territory. A text message from my dad at mile 3 put a smile on my face (and maybe even a tear in my eye).
So what made the difference today? I left an hour earlier (6:30) and beat the heat. I took my earbuds and listened to music the entire time, something I don’t usually do. Actually, it’s been years since I’ve run with music on a long run. I liked it. I’d need to assemble a good playlist next time (found myself flipping past sad slow songs) but maybe this is what I need to get past the next few long runs from hell.
I am hoping to run a faster pace during the actual race, but if I end up at an 11:00 min/mi pace, it would still be an improvement over my last couple of marathons.
