We’re taking off tonight to visit Scott’s family, namely to see his mom who’s in the thick of treatment for stomach cancer. I decided to get the long run out of the way this morning instead of run in an unfamiliar place tomorrow (and inevitably get lost or really bored by running the same 2 mile loop over and over).

I think it was the right decision. I mean, I’m glad it’s over. Boy, am I glad it’s over. I might be struggling a little this morning. I’m used to doing a long run like this and then going home and doing as little as possible. I suppose I do get a bit of a break in that the kid isn’t pulling on my legs every five minutes. Fridays are typically slow around here, so let’s just hope it stays that way today.

I purposely went out slow, kept my heart rate low and tried not to overdo it. I’m not sure if it was the right thing to do, because miles 10-13 were atrocious. At that point, it was purely survival. I would like to run faster on marathon day, but if this was the worst case scenario – me running 11:00 miles – then I can’t complain too much. That still puts me at less than five hours, which was my initial goal.

It will be strange not running until Tuesday. I think I’ll take my gear and get in a short run on Sunday if I can. I’ll still have Monday to rest. Next week is a rollback week, too.

Runner, Eater, Mother, Tweeter

Amy, July 2013

I'm a thirty-something suburbanite turned ruralite living in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Wife, mom of two, eater of all things delicious, and a runner. This is where I blather on about running and health. Baby Number Three will be here in November (so yes, I'm a little crazy), and I'm running through my pregnancy for as long as my body's willing and able. There's also more of me at amyupnorth.com.
